How to tell red clay from mildew
One is alive. One is Georgia. They are not cleaned the same way.
Mildew
Speckled black or green, usually on the shade side, under trees, or where a sprinkler wets the wall. A soft wash kills it. Bleach chemistry is the right family of tool.
Clay
Orange-red film on the lower wall, the porch, and the driveway, heavier after a rain that ran off red dirt. It is soil. Sodium hypochlorite does not dissolve it.
Both at once
Plenty of houses have mildew on the north wall and clay on the bottom two feet. Those are two steps in one visit, not one magic bottle.
