Gutters and guards
A clean wall under a packed gutter is a temporary photograph.
Cleaning
Debris comes out by hand. Downspouts get checked for flow, not just looked at. The face of the gutter can be washed in the same trip so the stripes on the fascia are not the only thing left.
Guards
Mesh and micro-mesh guards go on after the trough is empty, sized to the gutter that is there. Pines and sweetgum will still shed fines. Guards cut how often someone is on a ladder. They are not a force field.
What washing will not do
A leaking mitre, a hanger that has pulled out of rotten fascia, and a downspout that drains into the foundation are visible once the trough is empty. They can be pointed out. They are not repaired by a hose.
