Caulk that belongs on a house
Open joints at trim and penetrations let water in. Caulk is not a substitute for flashing, and it is not a way to hide rot.
Where it goes
Joints at exterior trim, window perimeters that have opened, and penetrations you can point at. The old failed bead comes out if it is loose. Paint-grade caulk is not a structural repair.
Where it does not go
Weep holes in brick stay open. A joint that is open because the wood is gone gets wood, not a fat bead. Painting the whole elevation is not this visit.
How it is quoted
A few joints are a winter add-on. A house with failed caulk on every window is a different number, said before the gun comes out.
