Before the first freeze
A short list that prevents the expensive kind of winter call.
Water
Cover exposed hose bibs. Pull hoses off so the faucet can drain. A cover is a piece of foam, not a plumbing repair.
The shell
Daylight under a door is a sweep. A gap at the trim is caulk. A torn crawl door is an invitation for cold air and animals.
The roof edge
Gutters full of leaves overflow, freeze, and stain the fascia. Cleaning them is the job. Replacing rotten fascia is only a spot repair if the wood is a short piece, not the whole run.
