Deck cleaning
A deck should come out clean, not chewed up. And a soft board should get found before the wash, not after.
Look first
Before anything gets wet I probe the soft spots. A board that takes a screwdriver is not a cleaning problem. Washing a soft board makes it look cleaner and fails it faster. One or two bad boards can be replaced on the same visit if we agree on it. A whole deck frame is a carpenter.
How I clean it
Composite gets washed gently. Wood gets cleaned at low pressure so the grain doesn't fuzz up. Rails and steps get the same care as the boards. A brightener or a stain is only part of the job if it was in the quote. The beds and grass under the deck get watered before and rinsed after.
What it won't do
Cleaning does not restore a stain that has worn off. If the finish is gone, a wash will show that, not hide it. Loose rails and rotted joists are a repair. Gray, weathered wood can lighten, but it is still old wood.
Fences go with it
Wood fences often get done on the same day, the same way: low pressure, no gouging. A leaning post is a fence repair, not a wash.
Before I get there
Move the grill, the rugs and the light furniture if you can. Pets stay inside until the boards are rinsed and dry.
